Castle Ewen and the Fairy Glen.
Start. Fairy Glen car park.
Notes. Before we start lets have a rant, did you know the many pay and display car parks springing up at nearly all the beauty spots on the Isle of Skye are managed by the Highland Council on behalf of, wait for it, the Scottish Government Rural Payments and Inspections Directorate. So this department with the ridiculously long name is responsible for ruining many of the beauty spots on the island. I know the massive influx of visitors need to park somewhere, we have been visiting the island for over twenty years and can clearly remember the days when car parks were small and parking was free. We happily paid at The Storr and Quiraing, then we found ourselves at the Fairy Glen, begrudgingly paying the three quid, not realising the place had been ruined by wide gravel paths, roped walkways with signs asking visitors to keep off the grass.
Anyway we reluctantly joined the crowds wandering through this unique landscape just up the hill from the port of Uig. This geological wonder is composed of a number of conical shaped hillocks that look man made but are actually the remnants of an ancient landslip. We joined the cortege waiting to ascend Castle Ewen, then waited to get down again before wandering back.

Looking across an unnamed pool to some of the many cone shaped mounds that make up the Fairy Glen.
Reaching to the sky, looking a lot higher than it is Castle Ewen.
Viewing Ben Gorm across Glen Uig.
Over the head of Glen Uig Beinn Edra reaches across the horizon.
From Castle Ewen stunning views over the Fairy Glen.

The Fairy Glen a totally natural landscape formed much in the same way as the Trotternish Ridge.
